Trail Ride Report

Week of May 26-30

Totals Miles To Date: 111 miles

Day 7 - Wed May 28: Total traveled: 12.2 mi

Corby Rodgers joined me on the ride today. Now he's an old cowboy from his early years and I expect no problems from his place in the saddle. We start out where I left off last week at the Methodist Church in Cedar Springs. Weather is cool enough starting out but becomes stagnant and fairly warm to hot by noon . I'm havin a good 'ol time and decide Corby looks like he needs to eat lunch. We stop at the Old Settlers Reunion near Tomlinson Hill and first thing the boy does is try to pass out on me. Probably the heat or too much in the saddle. I pamper him a while and say all the right touchy feely things and it passes. Back in the saddle and we ride past Triangle on FM 107 toward Eddy. About 2:00 pm in the afternoon he does it again. Man I'm shore glad I drew a real cowboy to ride with me today. He gets over it again and about 3:00 we call it a day. Next time I'll get his wife, Rachell, to come along and take care of that cowboy. All aside, thanks for being with me Corby . Really enjoyed my time with you. Back to Cobb Resort for the night.

Day 8 - Thurs May 29: Total traveled 14.5 mi

By myself again. Start at the fruit stand on FM 107 and head towards Eddy , Texas on IH 35. This day it gets hot quick and stays hot. Near 100 from noon on. I get a late start and decide we have to go late today to get some miles in. At noon me and Cheater stop at the only shade we can find anywhere. Fly infested cow lot with no one around. I unload Cheat completely to make him comfortable and then do something really dumb........ I know what yor thankin. I ground tie him to a stob soos he can graze and first thing he gets hung up in the rope and receives a rope burn on left rear heal courtesy his rider. Not a bad one but very nearly a ride ending wreck. Rope was thick so it did not cut deep. I doctor it best I can and we head on down the road. We stop at 4:00 pm at the Runaway Girls halfway house and they graciously give me a ride back to the truck and trailer and their next door neighbor, Mr Joe Brocket puts Cheat up for the night. Their son, Joel is a 2nd year vet student here at A&M. I head to Waco for some air conditioning.

Day 9 - Fri May 30: Total traveled 9 miles

Up at 4:30 am for early start. Discover my tools and air tank removed from my truck during the night. El Indio Roacho Motel wasn't such a deal after all. In saddle by 7:30 am and ride back roads through Chilton to Moody, Texas . Over 100 this day and Cheat agrees that we both head to the house for r&r. The tree I tie him up to to hitch hike back to rig is 111 miles from where we started some days ago.

I nurse Cheat's heal and believe he'll be ready to go on the

remount. I can see that earlier starts are going to be imperative and alternating mounts because of the heat will also be in the program for the coming week.
