Saturday June 24th, My son Blake and I were fishing the surf in South Padre. At 6:30 a.m. I had a huge strike on a top water super spook and the fight was on. I assumed this was a Jack cravalle because of the power this fish displayed.
This fish, as previous JACK fish have done, began to take me down the beach. I quickly followed so the fish would not spool me. At 7:05 am, I start believing I may actually land this fish. I start seeing swirls just past the first sand bar. I was standing in ankle deep water with a gallery of beach comers now behind me. Out of no where, what I guessed was an eight foot shark crashed through the waves 20 yards in front of me. The picture tells the rest of the story. Half of the fish weighed weighed 12 pounds.
